Ignition Dance Festival is seeking Community dance groups to take part in this year’s festival at Lyric Hammersmith and Rose Theatre Kingston.

Produced by DanceWest the festival showcases the diversity and talent of Community Dance in West London. We are seeking an array of dance groups regardless of age, ability and style to take part! Thanks to support from Arts Council England, Royal Borough of Kingston and London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham we are able to offer four community dance platforms!

Thanks to support from Arts Council England - Ignition Dance Festival is back for a fifth year! 

On the the 16 May at the Lyric Hammersmith’s DanceWest have commissioned five previous recipients of the festival’s prestigious choreographic bursaries to present work, a special line up of performances to celebrate Ignition’s fifth birthday. Meet our - Classes Administrator Jemima Frankel

Thanks to support from the WestWay Trust we have been able to engage a classes Administrator. Jemima is a graduate of Drama, Applied Theatre and Education from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She has a background in Performing Arts Project Management and delivery, and particularly enjoys work that engages young people and families in creative movement and play based experience. Jemima has worked with multiple theatres, charities, schools and libraries exploring the arts as a medium for social engagement and impact. Jemima will support DanceWest two-days per week.

DanceWest is delighted to announce the launch our Bolder not Older Dance Company, for West Londoners aged 55+. Following the success of our Bolder not Older classes, we have decided to launch a dance company which will meet weekly and work towards high profile performances. Under the direction of Sonia lIlescas the company celebrate the artistic integrity of older dancers and challenge preconceptions of what it means to be older. More HERE

Meet our Community Programme Coordinator!

We are delighted to be able to introduce our brand new Community Programme Coordinator. Gurdeep studied Economics and Philosophy at the London School of Economics, before pursuing her career in community development work. She has a background in project and event management, with a particular interest in bringing different artists and collaborators together to co-create innovate projects with a social impact. Gurdeep also has extensive experience in the voluntary sector, leading and supporting multiple youth based initiatives which aim to equalise educational and life opportunities. 

Move-it Monday Sharing event

Monday 4 December 2017 

Over 40 young people aged 11-26 took part in our dance sharing. Move-it Mondays is an inclusive dance programme for young people produced by DanceWest and delivered in partnership with Action on Disability and Caxton Youth Centre. The young people take part in a dance class every Monday at the Lyric Hammersmith and Caxton Youth Centre in Westminster. On Monday young people from both groups shared their work as well as two guest performances from the DanceWest Youth Company and Corali Dance Company.
