DanceWest collaborated with Action on Disability to produce a summer school for young people 11-25 with disabilities. Delivering weekly tasters the programme built towards a sharing event which took place at the Action on Disability AGM.

Supported by Hammersmith & Fulham Council and Change for Life DanceWest delivered a series of free dance classes for families in parks this summer. Giving families a taster of our dance classes and offering everyone a chance to get moving!

Watch - Dancing Books!

Dancing Books is a Community Dance project created and produced by DanceWest. Supported by Arts Council England, Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster. The project offers free dance classes in Libraries for pre-school children and their families. Children's books are nominated and then used as the inspiration for the classes. Dancing Books encourages the development of literacy skills and inspires storytelling.

Dance in the Square

Dance in the Square is a free festival produced by DanceWest supported by Hammersmith London and Lyric Hammersmith. The festival saw over ten choreographers sharing new dynamic pieces of choreography.
Ignition Dance Festival - Community Dance Platform Rose Theatre
Wednesday 21 June
Over 300 dancers aged 6-86 presented work at our Community Dance Platform at the Rose Theatre. From Tap, Jazz, Contemporary to Hip-Hop - the platform was a celebration of dance. Hosted by Hakeem Onibudo who had the audience on their feet and dancing in the stalls.

Ignition Dance Festival - Community Dance Platform

As part of Ignition Dance Festival over 450 dancers aged 6-86 presented work at our Community Dance Platform. From Bhangra, Bollywood, Flamenco to Contemporary - the platform was a celebration of dance. Hosted by Hakeem Onibudo who had the audience on their feet and dancing in the stalls at the Lyric Hammersmith!

On Wednesday 17 May, the Ignition choreographers shared work in progress. Hosted by Donald Hutera the event gave the audience to chance to ask the choreographers questions, share feedback and the chance for the choreographers to test ideas in front of a large and responsive audience.

We were delighted to welcome Japanese dance artist Tomomi Kosano into our Move It Mondays classes. Tomomi is the member of an inclusive dance company in Tokyo and is here in London on a research and development visit. She came to look at our inclusive dance classes and meet with the team delivering our programme.

Audition Notice - Henri Oguike for Ignition Dance Festival

Henri Oguike is inviting dancers to apply to audition for the creation of a new work for Ignition Dance Festival produced by DanceWest. Henri will create a group piece that will delve deeply into the rhythmic and dynamic possibilities linking choreography to music. Producing delicate nuances of the body as a natural generator of 'narratives' in the work. More here
Dancing Books - Sessions start in Hammersmith Libraries

Dancing Books our programme for pre-schoolers and their carers started this week in Hammersmith Libraries. We had fantastic numbers, great feedback and a really positive start to our programme.
