The winners of the 2018 choreographic commissions were announced on Monday 14 May. The awards were presented by The Guardian’s Dance Writer, Judith Mackrell, Dance writer and critic Graham Watts, The Times’ Donald Hutera, dance writer Nicholas Minns and former Rambert Artistic Director Mark Baldwin. Five winners were selected from 390 applications.

On Monday 14 May, DanceWest invited five Choreographers who have participated in Ignition Dance Festival to present new work. Taking place at the Lyric Hammersmith. The evening included work from Casson & Friends, Sally Marie, Salah El Brogy, Dane Hurst & Thick and Tight.

Over 1,000 people joined us for the fifth year of the Ignition - Community Dance Platform! Dancers aged 6-86 performed on stage at Lyric Hammersmith which was hosted by Heart FM DJ Annaliese Dayes. More details and film documenting the day released soon!

Calling all mid-career choreographers DanceWest needs you. Now in its fifth year, Ignition is west London’s only Dance Festival supported by Arts Council England, the Royal Borough of Kingston and London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. Ignition supports community dancers, emerging artists and mid-career choreographers to create new choreography.
The Choreographers platform showcases a vibrant programme from visionary choreographers. The festival is able to offer five commissions to mid-career choreographers with a supportive developmental package.

Bolder not Older is a free dance programme for adults 55+. DanceWest has hosted two open classes where adults 55+ audition to take part in the company building towards high profile performances. Company members and details will be announced shortly!

Thanks to support from Arts Council England, Royal Borough of Kingston and London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham we are able to offer four commissions of £500.
The commission would appeal to emerging choreographers and dance companies that are looking are looking for their first or early commission, building performance history and gaining valuable experience. More here

On the the 16 May at the Lyric Hammersmith’s DanceWest have commissioned five previous recipients of the festival’s prestigious choreographic bursaries to present work, a special line up of performances to celebrate Ignition’s fifth birthday.
